SIX-year-old Weymouth schoolgirl Anya Readhas won the competition to design a logo for the Cheeky Kids’ Foundation.

The competition was launched in the Echo last month and children from schools all over Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester entered their designs.

After picking the top three finalists, Echo readers were asked to vote for their favourite design in a phone and text poll.

The winning design was drawn by Anya, from St Nicholas and St Lawrence School, whose splat drawing received 55 votes from members of the public.

She said: “I’m very grateful and happy. I thought the splat would be ok for both boys and girls. I wanted it to have a cheeky face with the tongue poking out and purple is my favourite colour. I’m really happy, the idea just came to me.” Her brother Max Read, aged nine, was also picked as a finalist and ended up coming second in the poll with his robot logo design.

The founders of the Cheeky Kids’ Foundation awarded the winner with a pink Nintendo DS and vouchers for the second and third place.

Max said: “I thought robots would appeal to both boys and girls. It feels really good to come second and I’m really happy. I’m going to spend my voucher on games.”

Proud mum Joleyne Read said that she is very proud of both her children. She said: “I was quite shocked when I got the phone call to say they had won, especially because as both of them got into the top three. I was really pleased and chuffed for them.” Florence Mundler-May, 10, came third with her sunshine design. She said: “I did three designs, a kite, the sunshine and one with stars, but I chose the sunshine because it was simple. I’m really excited and happy to be in the top three.

“When I got the message I was jumping up and down and giving my cat Poppy a hug.” Keith Buckland from Cheeky Kids’ Foundation said: “It has been great to see the children today and see them so happy. We are really pleased. This is just the beginning of the project.”
