• THE sun shone for volunteers who gathered at the top end of Cockles Lane to help plant native tree whips where gaps have appeared in vegetation along the banks of the old drovers way.

Representatives from Woodland Trust and RSPB were there to help and advise. Many thanks to everyone who came and worked so hard.

  • JOHN and Karen Pearce are collecting for Little Firs this Easter. Raffle tickets are available at their fish and chip shop (Alfs at Fiveways, Chickerell Road). They are also collecting loose change for a pensioners outing to Trago Mills in April and are grateful for all contributions.
  • THE Yetties Concert at St Edmund's, Lanehouse Rocks Road, was a sell out as usual, and raised around £600 for the church.
  • THERE will be a table top sale at Westham Methodist Church on Saturday, March 26, to raise funds for Westham Community Group’s summer activities. Contact Ryan Hope on 07794757558 for details or to book a table.
  • MEMBERS of St Paul’s, Abbotsbury Road, are staging a quiz night on Saturday, April 9. Doors open 7pm for 7.30 start. Four members per team (members must be over 10 years old). There is a charge of £1 per player. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be a raffle.
  • THIS year’s Collegium Regale Concert will take place in All Saints, Wyke, on Thursday, April 7, at 7.30pm. The choir consists of eight members of the world renowned choral scholars of King's College, Cambridge. They will be accompanied by one of the under-organists for Westminster Abbey. Proceeds from the concert will be equally divided between All Saints and St. Edmunds and will go towards the cost of repairs to their buildings.

  • THE Spirit of Wyke WI March meeting with the theme of breast awareness and risks was a great success. Following the talk members had the opportunity to be measured for a correct fitting by the bra advisor from Debenhams.

The group has also committed to support the ongoing Dorset County Hospital NHS 2011 Digital Mammography Appeal.

Special congratulations go to group member Julie Philpott who has recently achieved the prestigious standards of Gold, Silver, Bronze and a Certificate of Merit at the 2011 World Marmalade Awards.

The group’s next meeting will be a games evening and will be held on Monday, April 4, at 7.30pm in the function room of the Wyke Smugglers.
