• SHOOTING Stars, the well attended after school club at Portesham school, run by Rev Ada Whittock and her team of volunteers from St Peter’s church, had great fun last Wednesday taking off their shoes and socks to make a multi coloured footprint paint collage.

Afterwards they drew around their hands and feet to make three beautiful crosses which will hopefully be displayed, together with the footprints, at three churches in the benefice.

Shooting Stars runs every Wednesday during term time from 3 – 4.15pm.

  • ST Peter’s will be hosting another very popular village café on Saturday, 2 April from 1000 – 1200 at Portesham village hall with a Mothering Sunday theme.

On offer will be the usual bacon butties together with Danish pastries, posh cakes and filter coffee.

There will be a competition for children to design a Mothering Sunday card (extra points for handcrafted designs!) and an activity to make a special gift for Mum too!

All this and a tombola, raffle, plant stall and library – where else would you want to be on a Saturday morning?

  • ST Peter’s church has a special Mothering Sunday morning praise service on Sunday, 3 April at 1030. All ladies will receive a small hand tied posy of flowers.
  • FUNDRAISING activities continued at Portesham school with a special Comic Relief “Come in Disguise” day.

The children were encouraged to adopt a disguise in exchange for a donation and enjoyed a special Red Nose day lunch of red nose pizza faces with red nose cookies for pud, made from scratch in their own kitchen. £100 was raised for Comic Relief.

Also the recent bag2school collection organised by POPS raised £340.

Many thanks to all who contributed to either cause.

  • IF you still have any clean unwanted clothes, shoes, bags, soft toys or household textiles you no longer need, please bring them to St Peter’s church who will collect them as part of the Rag-Bag scheme. There are collection bags available at the back of the church.

This scheme does not use landfill and everything is recycled either for direct use or made available for industrial cleaning.
