A GOOD number of people enjoyed Jenny Morris’s talk about the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 at the Old School.

With verse by Robert Servis and slides, she created for us all the atmosphere of gold prospectors’ lives in the Yukon. Jenny has other talks up her sleeve and can be contacted through the number above.

AT the committee meeting following the AGM of the Old School Village Hall, Greg Rochfort was elected chairman, replacing Bill Crumbleholme who remains on the committee.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jim and Rita Totten-Robinson on their Golden wedding. Rita was born and bred in Upwey, Jim’s a Portlander and they have lived here together for 50 years.

They gave a lovely party for a great number of people at the Old School and gifts for the Church fabric fund raised over £800 – what a generous way of celebrating!

THE WESSEX Research Group meets on Wednesday, April 13 at the Menzies Room at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.

ARTS AND CRAFTS are up and running with craft workshops led by Bill Crumbleholme at the Old School, weekend April 16 and 17 to start a creative and varied programme for the year.

OLYMPICS AHEAD – on Monday, April 18 at the Old School at 7.30pm, Simon Williams, Head of Weymouth and Portland 2012 Operations,will be quashing the rumours and telling how it actually is going to be next year.

There will be a Q & A opportunity and light refreshments. No charge.

EVENTS for Easter are in preparation and on Good Friday, at 10.30am, there will be a service of meditation and reflection at St Laurence Church, with sung responses and appropriate hymns.

JUST A rather sad word – we have received reports of thefts in the village.

Most particularly, thieves are targeting garden equipment and machinery; they are also helping themselves to petrol from car tanks. Do be watchful and lock up where possible. Please report any suspicions to the police.
