DI Ludlow will again be hosting the annual open garden and grand plant sale in aid of the RNLI at Friar Waddon farmhouse (between Portesham and Upwey) on Wednesday, 11 May, 10.30 am – 1.30 pm. Morning coffee and light lunches will be served and as well as plant sales there will be a raffle, bring and buy, produce and cake stalls. Entrance is £1.

  • CHILDREN in the packed congregation at St Peter’s church enjoyed an Easter egg hunt after the communion service on Easter Day. Raffle tickets had been hidden all around the inside of the church which the children had to find to exchange for a chocolate egg.

The church was spectacularly decorated with arrangements of spring flowers, bowls of narcissus and the two part Easter garden together with the remembrance lillies.

Don’t forget the ongoing rag-bag collection which recycles clothing, shoes, bags, belts, blankets, soft toys and household linens (not duvets or rugs though).

Collection bags are available at the back of the church where bagged items can also be left. £73 has been raised so far in aid of church funds.

  • CHRISTIAN Aid week begins on Sunday, 15 May. Look out for the envelopes coming through your letterbox!
  • DON’T forget the local council elections on Thursday, 5 May. You can vote at the village hall from 7.00 am – 10 pm if you’ve not already done so by post.

Other events at the village hall include the Garden Club’s plant sale, 10am – 12 noon on Saturday, 7 May and Sheila Bird’s talk on the History of Buttons to Portesham WI on Tuesday, 10 May, 7.15 pm start.

  • DUFF Paddy entertains with traditional Irish live music and songs at The King’s Arms pub on Saturday, 14 May, 9 pm – late.
  • A REMINDER from Portesham surgery with another bank holiday coming up at the end of May, to collect your prescriptions in good time so you don’t run out over the long weekend.

The phones are also likely to be very busy on the first morning back after a bank holiday, so if yours is a routine enquiry please try to avoid ringing at that time.
