BOOGIE-woogie maestro Ben Waters is going back to school.

The top rock ‘n’ roll pianist, who regularly plays with big stars, is headlining a gig to support Broadmayne First School where his children were taught.

Ben is also using the concert for the Dorset launch of a new album he has made as a tribute to his childhood hero Ian Stewart, a founder member of The Rolling Stones.

It was originally started as a solo project but when word got out, musicians lined up to offer their services.

Contributions have come from Ben’s cousin PJ Harvey, Jools Holland and the Stones themselves.

Ben’s 10-year-old son Tom plays saxophone on one of the songs.

Proceeds from the sale of the album are going to the British Heart Foundation – Ian Stewart died of a heart attack in 1985.

Ben said he was delighted to play for the school. He and his band will be playing all the songs from the album and copies will be on sale.

Ben’s daughter Molly, nine, is in her last year at Broadmayne although son Tom, 10, has now left and is attending St Mary’s Middle School in Puddletown.

Ben, 37, who grew up in Weymouth and now lives near Owermoigne with wife Ruth and their two children, said: “It’s a fantastic school. My kids really love it there.

“It’s a good music school and encourages the children which is great.

“Tom plays the saxophone while Molly likes her singing, particularly Dolly Parton songs.”

Ben played a gig at the school two years ago and has been asked back by the PTA to headline the concert which is known as Broadmayne Live. Top local bands The Devil’s Rejects and Shooter are also playing along with Milly and the Peeps, a band made up of ex-Broadmayne pupils including Ben’s son Tom.

Ben added: “I thought the gig would be the ideal place to launch the Boogie4Stu album.”

Ben launched Boogie4Stu in London last month at an event attended by stars of stage and screen.

He said: “Stu was a friend of my aunt and uncle. He was the first pianist I heard live and is the reason I started playing in the first place. I owe a lot to him.”

Broadmayne Live is on Saturday, May 14. Gates open 6pm. Tickets are £12 in advance; £15 on the door. They are available online from broadmaynelive.co.uk, over the phone on 01305 534415 and from the school and other outlets in Broadmayne.
