I HAVE just had notification from POPS (Parents of Portesham School) that the wonderful sum of £1941.59 was raised at their summer fair and the school sports day which was held recently.

POPS do a fantastic job raising money to enrich the children’s learning at school and this year have funded trips to London and the local area for all of the children.

Portesham School, supported by POPS, will also be entering a float in this year’s Weymouth carnival and air show on Wednesday, 17 August. Please come along on the day and support the children.

I’VE also been asked to point out that the tickets for Ed Hintze’s one man show, taking place at Portesham village hall on Saturday, 6 August at 7.30pm, are £5. The show is raising funds for Portesham Methodist church and tickets are available from Alan, 01305 871110.

Also on Saturday, 6 August at the village hall is the St Peter’s coffee morning, 10am to 12 noon, raising funds to support St Nicholas church Abbotsbury after the recent theft of lead from their roof.

Additional village cafes at the village hall will be held by the Diamond Club on Saturday, 30 July and the Village Cafe Local Produce Market on Saturday 13 August. Usual time of 10am to 12 noon.

The latter is hosted by the Portesham village hall committee and after last year’s successful produce market it is being extended to all producers within the Chesil Bank parish area.

If you would like to sell your food produce please contact David McKinna, 01305 871392 to book a stall.

THE RBL Women’s section half yearly committee meeting takes place on Monday, 8 August 7.30pm.

A REMINDER of two green recycling fundraising initiatives in the village. Portesham School will be having another Bag2school collection on Monday, 19 September. Please bring any clean usable clothing/bed linen/paired shoes etc to the school before 9.30am.

If you don’t want to wait that long there is an ongoing Ragbag collection in St Peter’s church. Bags are available at the back of the church and any clean clothing/linen etc is acceptable even if it is no longer wearable.
