A WEYMOUTH school is throwing its support behind a former pupil who is performing live on Britain’s biggest talent show.

Radipole Primary School is proudly backing Perrie Edwards, who is hoping her girl band Little Mix’s performance on tonight’s live X Factor show will pull them through another round of public voting.

Last week Perrie, 18, and her bandmates survived a double eviction to make it one step closer to the top prize of securing a recording deal.

Perrie – who is originally from Weymouth but now lives in South Shields, Tyne and Wear – and Little Mix won praise from the judges for their version of Don’t Stop the Music by Rihanna.

Their mentor Tulisa Contostavlos said the band were improving each week.

Radipole headteacher Veronique Singer said: “We love to hear what our former pupils are getting up to. We’ve got quite a few who have been successful in dramatic arts.

“There are a few members of staff still here who were at the school when Perrie was here.

“Some people have got photos of when she was here in reception and the teacher who taught her, Claire Wilkinson, is still here.”

She added: “A lot of our children are involved in local pantomime and dance productions, I’m sure a lot of our pupils watch X Factor and it’s nice to think they can be inspired by Perrie.

“Everyone at Radipole wished Perrie every success. We hope her group goes on to win.”

Perrie’s proud mum Debbie Dufty, formerly of Dorchester Road, paid a visit to Weymouth last week from her current home in South Shields to catch up with family and friends.

Debbie said: “I showed Perrie the Dorset Echo coverage and she was absolutely over the moon.

“She couldn’t believe how everyone is getting behind her and she can’t wait to come back and see everyone.”
