PUPILS returned to their Weymouth school to celebrate top exam results with parents and staff.

The Wey Valley School and Sports College Class of 2011 were recognised for their achievements at the Annual Leavers Awards Presentation Evening.

They were joined by parents and staff for the event in the school’s Will Mackaness Hall.

Students received awards included Jessica Hawe, who gained 12 A* GCSEs and was the joint top performer in south Dorset.

Headteacher Phil Thomas talked of the importance of the evening.

He said: “Once more this has been a great opportunity to celebrate the increasing achievements across the full range of school experiences. “To have the joint highest-performing student in the area this year was a credit was a measure not only of the high calibre of academic but also personal support provided by staff at the school.”

There were awards for the highest achieving student in individual subjects.

There were also Endeavour Awards for commitment and enthusiasm in a number of fields, including sport and service to the school.

Jessica was presented with the Top Achieving Cup for the girls. Tom Glynn received the Top Achieving Cup for the boys.

Head girl Mila Ivanova and head boy Tom Glynn both received special awards in recognition of the time spent representing their year group and school.

Tom said : “I am really proud of the school and how well everyone did in their exams this year.

“I know how hard we all worked and it’s great to be part of a year group that achieved so well overall.

“It was amazing and a credit to our teachers that every student in the hall were presented with certificates.”

Awards for highest achieving students in specific subjects were: Megan Warr (English), Tom Glynn (Mathematics), Mary Kendall (Science), Jessica Hawe (French and History), Jack Pankhurst (German), Georgina Reynolds (Spanish), Clancey Welford (Geography), Harry Tucker (Technology), Bethan Hutton (Drama), Oriel Delage-Pendali (Dance), Toby Wightman (Film studies), Maisie Squibb (Physical Education), Nathan Biddle (Music), Natalie Vallance (ICT), Kamil Chronowski (The Arts).

Endeavour Plaques were awarded to: Darcy Belle, Kamil Chronowski, Jack Day, Adam Gray, Jessica Hawe, Jack Pankhurst, Rosie Pike, Jake Record, Maisie Squibb and Harry Tucker.
