THE FAMILY of kidney transplant Max Price are continuing to receive mixed messages concerning his recovery from the operation.

The three-year-old from Weymouth underwent the transplant operation nearly two weeks ago and, after initially positive results, suffered a setback on Thursday night when doctor’s believed he was showing signs of rejecting the donor organ.

He was taken into theatre at the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London on Friday and, while biopsies showed his body was not rejecting the kidney, a problem with his bladder was detected.

Mum Michelle had been due to take Max down to Southampton Hospital yesterday morning, but concerning blood test results put the move on hold.

Michelle said: “No-one quite knows what’s going on at the moment and who’s going where. Max in himself is doing fine and he’s actually been in school in the hospital and he’s done some painting and colouring, he loves it.

“So he’s not too bad at all, it just seems medically it seems to be one step forward, two steps backward at the moment.

“The whole bladder thing really upset me when I got told about it but I’m starting to get my head round it now.

“It could mean more major surgery though.”

Michelle added that she had nothing but praise for the level of care Max had been receiving at the London hospital.

She said: “The team here has been absolutely first class and we couldn’t have asked for anything better – they are complete angels.”
