Pupils fail to see difficulties in problem solving

STUDENTS at a Weymouth school say maths, science and technology are no problem.

Year eight students at Wey Valley School worked together in a special problem solving day to overcome a series of tricky hypothetical scenarios. The pupils, aged 12 and 13, thought their way through the problems, took on a Lego and computer challenge and built a robot to fix a broken oil supply pipe in the ocean.

Headteacher Phil Thomas said: "Problem solving is one of the school's three skills faculties, alongside communication and decision making, and these are crucial life skills for all young people to develop.

"The students have had a fantastic time and the level of creativity was superb."
