TOWN councillors have objected to a proposed development in Dorchester after hearing concerns from neighbours.
Members of Dorchester Town Council’s planning and environment committee recommended that West Dorset District Council refuse planning permission for three homes and a conversion of an office into a flat at St George’s Road.
They cited overdevelopment of the site, concerns over access, the overbearing nature of the proposed buildings and the loss of amenity for neighbouring residents as their reasons for objecting.
The recommendation came after members heard from fellow town councillor Tony Lyall, whose property adjoins the development site.
He claimed the majority of the windows in the proposed scheme would look directly into his garden and property.
Coun Lyall said: “I have lived there for forty years and it’s just going to deprive me of any privacy.”
Other local residents also complained about the new buildings blocking sunlight to their gardens and voiced fears over the proposed vehicle access to the site.
After members agreed to raise an objection to the planning application, committee chairman Fiona Kent-Ledger issued a warning to the concerned residents.
She said: “There is a very strong possibility that something will get built on this piece of land so it’s an ongoing battle.”
