WEST Dorset District Council’s executive committee has approved a U-turn on proposals to allow jet skiers at West Bay and Lyme Regis and has been told there are no plans to resurrect the pilot scheme.
In November last year the committee approved plans for a pilot scheme to allow 20 jet-skiers to use the two harbours in areas marked by buoys between April and September.
However, after receiving a flood of opposition to the proposals, the council has now back-tracked on the proposals.
Bridport councillor Ros Kayes told the committee that the whole issue could have been avoided if the council had consulted properly with all the relevant stakeholders and local members before announcing the planned pilot scheme.
She said: “It’s a good example of what happens if there is not consultation.”
Coun Kayes also asked whether there were any plans to look again at the proposals in future.
The council’s leisure and tourism manager Nick Thornley said: “There is no intention to bring it back.”
