A COMPANY hoping to build a wind farm off the Dorset coast has put in a planning application for a meteorological mast.
The 100metre high structure will collect data about the weather and wind for the Navitus Bay Wind Park, which in planned for the Jurassic Coast.
The Marine Management Organisation will consider the plans before making a decision about the mast, which could be sited eight miles from Swanage.
Project director for Navitus Bay, Chris Sherrington, said: “A meteorological mast is a standard piece of equipment for offshore wind farms that provides important data to support any application.
“If a marine licence is granted then we will seek to minimise any impacts that the mast could have on the local area.”
If approved, construction is scheduled to begin in July 2012 and will take one month. Consultations across the county will take place between February 21 and March 3. For details visit www.navitusbaywindpark.co.uk
