A BRASS ships bell which was stolen from a Weymouth shop has a unique engraving on it.
The theft of the 30cm-tall bell, engraved with the words Sapporo Olympics 1972, was discovered at a shop in Park Street last Thursday.
Weymouth police are urging witnesses and anyone with information to come forward. Sapporo, Japan made history as the first Asian venue to host the 1972 Winter Olympics.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: “The theft of the brass ships bell, with the words Sapporo Olympics, 1972 engraved on it, occurred sometime between midnight on Friday, January 20 and Thursday, February 9.
“It was reported to us as stolen from the shop early on Thursday morning.
“We’re investigating, but there have been no arrests yet.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked call PC Aiden Meredith on the non-emergency number, 101, quoting crime number 5629.
