A NEWSPAPER delivery boy has been praised for his quick thinking after he alerted a gas company to a potential leak in Dorchester.
Sam White, 14, was doing his rounds in Sandringham Court when he noticed the smell of gas.
As it was early in the morning and there were no residents up, the Thomas Hardye School student made a note of the house number where he smelt the gas and rushed home to contact the gas company responsible.
An engineer was immediately sent out to make sure the flat, which was in a Magna Housing Association Sheltered Housing scheme, was safe and secure.
Director of Magna David Aldwinckle said Sam’s quick and calm thinking had ensured a potentially serious situation was avoided.
