LOTS of events happening at St Peter’s church Portesham, past and present!

The recent Fish and Chip supper and Championship pancake tossing raised over £350 as well as providing a wonderful evening’s entertainment! Well done and thank you to everyone involved.

Lent safari lunches with the theme “Life Balance” are continuing every Monday with St Peter’s Portesham hosting today, Monday, 12 March at 12 noon. Soup and bread rolls will be served and the session will be finished by 2.30pm. All welcome. For those of you who can’t manage a lunchtime session, it’s hoped to run the course in the evening some time after Easter. More details to follow later.

There will be a special Mothering Sunday service on Sunday, 18 March beginning at 1030am where all ladies will be presented with a small posy. If you have any flowers suitable for these please bring them to the church on Saturday, 17 March or contact Liz Draper on 01305 871316.

Also on Saturday, 17 March St Peter’s will be hosting the village cafe with a St Patrick’s Day theme. There will be the normal goodies on offer together with raffle, cakes, tombola, bottle draw and an Irish competition. There may also be an Irish tune in the background! Usual time of 10am to 12 noon.

Finally, at Easter, lilies in remembrance of friends and family will again be displayed in the church. If anyone would like to contribute please contact Liz Draper on 01305 871316.

THE King’s Arms pub have been busy planning a packed calendar of events for 2012.

On Saturday, 17 March there will be an Irish night with music from Duff Paddy and food specials, and the following day, Mothering Sunday there will be a special lunch menu of £14.95 for 3 courses. Book your table now on 01305 871342. More details of events later but look out for a special “King’s Garden Party” on Tuesday, 5 June to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a BBQ, disco and children’s party games.

You can also now order take away food from the pub at a cost of £5.95 for dishes such as chicken curry and rice and homemade pasty and chips. Order between 6 and 8 pm on the above number.

CHESIL scouts will be holding another of their regular jumble sales on Saturday, 24 March at 2.30pm in Portesham village hall. Come along and support them if you can.

PLANS are underway for the welcoming of the Olympic torch to the village and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. A group of ladies are making 2 km of bunting and sails to be displayed along the roads and would be very grateful for donations of red, white and blue fabric, not necessarily plain, but predominantly in those colours.
