SKANDIA Team GBR is the British Sailing Team in the Olympic and Paralympic classes.

The team consists of the Performance Squad and Development and Transitional squads, which jointly total around 70 sailors.

The sailors train and compete across 10 Olympic Classes: Finn, Laser Radial, Laser, 470 men and women, 49er, Star, RS:X men and women windsurfers and, new for London 2012, Women’s Olympic Classes Match Racing.

There are three Paralympic Classes: the Sonar, 2.4mR and SKUD18.

Great Britain is the world’s top Olympic classes sailing nation with the British Olympic team sailors topping the medal table at the past three Games in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

In a Dorset Echo column, Skandia Team GBR members are bringing an insight into the campaign for glory.

Here’s Portland’s Megan Pascoe: WHAT have I been up to over the last month?

Not a lot really. I went back to the parents to spend a few days cycling. I won a pooh sticks competition and found that the trails around Heathfield are very hilly.

I’ve been to Budmouth College in Weymouth and Underhill Junior School on Portland, which made it onto page three of the Echo.

I’ve done a bit of 2.4mR sailing with the development guys, which was interesting as I was trying to put a boat together with most of my stuff still in the container.

Over the last few days I’ve managed to make new halyards for Min (my second boat) and for my masts that are in the container coming home from Miami.

I have also re-roped Min so that she looks pretty and goes fast and put a new pump in.

I’m not very good at remembering which wires go where so had to read the pump instructions!

I now also have a tidy trailer ready for all the gear that comes out of the container.

I’ve enjoyed sailing the Merlin over at Castle Cove with Sam B, Alex A and Niki B.

We have been going quite fast and we have a new mainsail, which is exciting.

Our self-launching poles actually work now although there is still more boat work that we need to do.

Although I always think a boat is for sailing.

I went off to Hove for a Sussex legacy event which was cool and then I went sailing with Matt before spending the rest of the week trying to get my starting sorted.

Boat came out of the container on Tuesday. It was actually a quick unload considering we had three 8m rigid inflatable boats (RIBs), one 5m RIB and two 2.4s in a 40ft box.

I was racing this weekend in the Olympic Spring Series.

It was announced in February that the 2.4mR trials for 2012 will continue to future major events. We should know the next decision at the end of April.

I’m really looking forward to the next few months working hard to make the next couple of World Cup events real medal chances.
