THE Dorset Echo has been shortlisted for yet another industry award.

For the third year in a row, the Dorset Echo is in the running for the Regional Newspaper of the Year award at the 2012 Newspaper Awards.

It is the latest in a string of award nominations the newspaper has received in recent years.

The Dorset Echo was also highly commended at the EDF Energy media awards last year for its punchy style that keeps the paper at the ‘heart of its community’.

Judges at the EDF Energy London and South of England Media Awards had also shortlisted the paper for the third consecutive year.

And Dorset Echo chief Toby Granville was recently named Editor of the Year.

Toby was recognised in Newsquest’s annual excellence awards for his achievements as editor of the Dorset Echo in Weymouth during 2011.

The 38-year-old was honoured by the company for demonstrating leadership, motivation and inspiration, creativity, cost control and quality.

He was praised for the Dorset Echo’s success as the best performing daily newspaperfor sales and for creating a digital strategy that saw its website achieve the greatest audience growth in 2011.

Toby, who was appointed group editor of both the Dorset Echo and the Daily Echo in December, said: “I am delighted that once again we have been nominated for yet another prestigious award.

“It is recognition for the hard work of our dedicated team and the loyalty of our readers, which together continue to make the Dorset Echo one of the best performing newspapers in the country.”

The winners of the 2012 Newspaper Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on April 25.
