First boat sailed and where? On the River Thames in an Optimist, which I didn’t enjoy at the time
Your best moment in sailing? Probably the 2010 World Championships were we managed to finish fifth overall and the top British boat out in the Bahamas
Your worst moment in sailing? In the medal race of that event, where we didn’t go for the gold Best sailing venue in the World? San Francisco
How do you progress from a club sailor to an Olympic class sailor? I progressed through a Pico and had a local coach who used to shout at me a lot and eventually got me into racing. After a few years I started sailing a 29er which is an RYA class then went through the natural RYA progression to the 49er and moved up the small 49er squad
Any advice to future sailors? Doesn’t matter what anyone says, you can make it as long as you put in the time and work you can achieve anything
What are your greatest passions outside of sailing? Kitesurfing, windsurfing wakeboarding and maybe a bit of surfing
What would you love to do but never have the time or money for it? I never have the time or money to go travelling, windsurfing and kitesurfing any more
Worst habit? Forgetting when you’re on a plane that we needed to take something out for the boat and that we haven’t got it!
Do you have any lucky charms or rituals? I always have to sail with a laser, I can’t sail without my visor and if we lose one on the water I have got to go back and get one!
If you had a theme song what would it be? Probably something a bit comical, maybe Right Said Fred?
Favourite reality show and would you go it? I don’t really like reality shows so no basically!
Name three things that are always in your shopping trolley? Vimto, diet coke and sweets
Can you describe yourself in three words? Spontaneous, determined, can be argumentative
