ST AUGUSTINE’S Catholic Primary School in Weymouth has been celebrating some outstanding achievements across a variety of different sports.

Two teams entered the local Junior Netball League with the A team winning Division One and the B team finishing runners-up in Division Two, where St Nicholas & St Laurence beat them to top spot on goal difference.

Four of the pupils that took part for St Augustine’s were Year Fours, who stood up well to mainly Year Six opponents.

The two teams included Georgina Mason, Sophie Doyle, Danielle Lyones, Ed Spearing and Cameron Higginbottom (A team), and Ryan Hannigan, Oliver Mills, Dean Lyones, Jaimee Browne, Phoebe Mills, Isabel Jolliffe and Anya Denny (B team).

The two sides also competed in the High Five Rally Tournament organised by Budmouth’s Young Sport Leaders.

The A team did not concede any goals and finished unbeaten while the B team won one and lost two to finish third in their group.

There has also been success on the football front where St Augustine’s boys managed to regain the Nash Cup in the smaller schools competition.

The Saints beat Chickerell Primary and Southwell Primary in the quarter and semi-finals respectively before seeing off Southill in the final 1-0 thanks to the quick reactions of Bailey Roper.

Hannigan, Ollie Carr, Higginbottom, Ben Alford, Miles Jarvis, Cameron Brodie and Spearing also starred in the success.

Having played as a team only twice before, St Augustine’s also entered the inaugural girls’ Nash Cup football competition and reached the quarter-finals, where they eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat against Conifers.

The girls fought hard and thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon. Congratulations go to Mills, Browne, Ellie Mae Rose, Bethany Plummer, Mason, Lyones, Doyle and Jade Munden for representing the school in such a sporting manner.

Finally, in the pool, St Augustine’s recently entered a small squad into the Weymouth & Portland Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala where the Year Five girls’ relay team came second in both the mixed and freestyle events, while Chloe Perkins finished second and third in the Year Five breaststroke and butterfly respectively.

The relay team consisted of Anna Evans, Plummer, Olivia Aston and Perkins.
