DORCHESTER’S Bradley King is set to compete in the ‘Olympics of off-road motorcycle sport’ this September in Germany.

The International Six Days Enduro takes places every year, putting riders from different countries up against each other for six gruelling days of competition.

Competing for five to eight hours each day, the event tests the skills of both the riders and their machines, as well as endurance and reliability.

Having started riding on a small 50cc motorbike at the age of four, King first competed in trials at the age of 10 and then moved into motocross at 15.

As soon as he reached 17 – the minimum required age to take part in Enduro – the county town ace started competing in the British Enduro Champion-ship (BEC) in the clubman class.

With immediate success, King moved onto the expert class and within two seasons he had moved up to the highest championship class.

Having also participated in multiple rounds of the European Championship, he was selected as a reserve rider for the GB national team, and selected to ride in the Rogershill team at the 2009 ISDE in Portugal.

Unfortunately, at a European event six weeks before the ISDE, an accident resulted in a major back injury.

Last year saw King take a break from racing in a bid to recharge his batteries ready for a renewed assault in 2012.

The 22-year-old said: “Com-peting in the ISDE has always been a dream of mine and I was gutted that I lost the opportunity to compete and possibly represent Great Britain due to the back injury in 2009.

“I’ve never lost the ambition to compete in the ISDE and took six months off from major competitions as I knew it would help me this year.

“I’ve been training hard so my fitness is good, my confidence on the bike is only getting better and better and I can’t wait to give the ISDE all I’ve got in September.”

The ISDE is a big commitment and King is therefore looking for anyone who can help fulfil his ambition of coming back from Germany with a gold medal for finishing within 10 per cent of the event class winner’s time.

He added: “Unfortunately the costs of competing at the ISDE are high so I’m looking for any possible help I can get towards the event.

“I’m very lucky to have a supportive family and some great sponsors already but every little help I get goes a long way and I do my best to represent my sponsors in the best possible way.”
