A SURVEY has found that nearly half of Dorset residents think local roads are too dangerous.

The poll, carried out for localpeople.co.uk, found that 46 per cent of Dorset residents feel that local roads are too hazardous and 40 per cent said they wanted better play areas for children.

When asked about their town centres, 23 per cent said there are too many empty shops in the town centre so they don’t go there and just 21 per cent thought their town has the right mix of chains and local independent shops.

Public transport is ‘a joke’ and you can’t survive without a car, 21 per cent.

Overall findings from the national website’s survey was that locals are choosing to shop on their doorstep and support enterprises on their High Street.

It also found that residents are increasingly dependent on their cars and are put off going into town because of high parking charges.
