A MUM and daughter were rescued from rocks on Portland by the coastguard.
The family, from Hereford, had been climbing on the scree slopes on the Chiswell side of Portland yesterday afternoon.
The mum and little girl got stuck as they couldn’t go up any further and the rocks made it difficult to get back down.
The father, son and pet dog managed to climb back down to the beach.
The family made a 999 call to Portland Maritime Rescue and Co-ordination Centre on Weymouth harbourside coastguard at 12.30pm.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “We received the call to say a couple of the family were stuck on the scree slope at West Weares, Portland.”
Portland coastguard asked Portland Bill coastguard rescue team to rescue the pair.
Weymouth sector manager Rob Sansom said that the team used the cliff rescue gear to go down the cliff from the top close to Weston.
Coastguard Jenny Coomer went over the edge to rescue the mum and girl.
Mr Sansom said: “We used the harness to rescue them from the cliff and then we walked them back to Chesil Cove.”
