Weymouth Tower gets in the picture with changing weather

A rainbow near the Weymouth Tower A rainbow near the Weymouth Tower

THE new Weymouth Tower is framed spectacularly by a rainbow in a weekend of changing weather.

Mark Probin captured this striking image on Friday evening as the sun was setting.

Weymouth resident Mark, 39, said: “I was walking up Bond Street and I could see the tower lit up and I thought light was being projected onto it.

“I noticed a rainbow. It was only there for a few minutes and I took a picture with my mobile phone.”

It came on a weekend which brought mixed weather including blue skies, sunshine, heavy rain and hail.

The Weymouth Tower’s viewing gondola is currently being tested and the attraction is set to open ahead of schedule on Friday, June 22.

Great picture Mark. Doesn't seem to reproduce as clearly as the original on this site though.

Rainbow over Weymouth Bay while the sun was setting!
Glad that the Echo included this as 'News'. It must be a long time since we last had any rainbows, must be nothing much else for them to tell us about.

Mr Happy is on form. You aren't paying for this so if you aren't interested it's simple, don't look at it.

As a complete detester of 'The Muff' and all things concerned with it including the Olymprics, May I say that this is a very good photograph. I also concur with Genghis's comment

OK Crabber and Genghis, I agree, nice picture but 'news', would it have been included here if it didn't include that huge white chimney?

Who cares? It's a great picture of the seafront and well worth giving it a wider circulation. So much nicer than 100% doom and gloom all the time. Would be nice if the OHEC could put the picture on in a better quality though.

I would have thought to look at this he would need to be online, and if he is then he must be paying something, unless he's getting it for free.
The photo looks photoshopped to me,but I could be wrong

Looking at the pic again, I agree that those clouds don't look like ones that I have seen around here, especially as the prevailing winds are from west to east. Never mind, it has made at least 2 of the viewers of the website happy, 'little things amuse etc'.

That's due to the quality that the OHEC has reproduced it as. I've seen the original.

Then I find it strange that a photo taken and then posted online differs as you say that much.I could go outside now, take a photo, post online and there wouldn't be much difference,if anything. It would be interesting to find out what camera he used and what the megapixel size is.

Apologies for sending in a photo with a bit of 'feel good' to it.

My comments to the ECHO were that I thought it was ironic that they have built a viewing tower to give you some cracking views (which it will), but on this occasion the best view was with it in it!

As for photoshopping, here is the original

“I noticed a rainbow. It was only there for a few minutes and I took a picture with my mobile phone.”.
.
And just show you know, megapixels don't determine how good a camera is.
.
The reason the online pic looks so poor is that they converted a JPEG to a GIF

I never said megapixels determined how good a camera is,if you have a slr with 3 mps it will sometimes be better than a compact with 8. In some cases more is better if you want to blow the photo up.In my case I would rather have an SLR with at least 10,then I have more scope to play around with.

This Mark Probin guy seems to spend an awful lot of time in the Echo!
Every other week he seems to be telling us something or another.
He must spend a lot of time outside the bond Street toilets!!!

Apparently some people on this site would rather read stories about muggings or stabbings. How on earth these people have managed to find something to complain about with a photo is beyond me. What miserable lives they lead.

Maybe the Echo should run a competition.

Obviously at the same time that you yourself are loitering or perhaps lurking in the area of the Bond Street toilets. What are you hoping to catch a glimpse of?

I understand that during the Olympics they are going to be siting ground to air missiles on the tower.
