BRENDON King refused to make excuses for his side’s dismal defeat at Redditch United.

The Terras went down 2-0 in their final game of the season but it could have been a lot more with the Reds having dominated for the majority of the afternoon.

King, whose side have finished 17th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, told Echosport: “Redditch were the better side. They adapted to the blustery conditions better than we did and created quite a few chances, so we can have no arguments at all.

“We did have a couple of decent spells but we did not take our chances when we were on top and that has been pretty much the story of the season.

“It’s disappointing to end with a defeat, particularly with so many of our fans having made the trip up, but we had a chat afterwards about what we need to work on for next season and I am sure the boys will come back a lot stronger.”

Keeper Tom Manley had a topsy-turvy afternoon in what could prove to be his last appearance for the club due to work commitments. As well as pulling off some fine saves, he also conceded two penalties and was sent-off.

King added: “I have not whinged too much about officials this season and I don’t think on this occasion the referee was to blame.

“However, poor was not the word for one of the linesman, who gave a back-pass even though Alex Jeannin had clearly knocked the ball off one of their lads. But the officials were not the reason we lost the game – unfortunately we were just not good enough.”

Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie turned out for the Reds at the age of 34.

King went on to say: “He was quality on the ball and it was just great for some of the younger lads to be on the same pitch as him.

“He was getting into little pockets and linking up the play superbly but you would expect nothing less from a guy that has not only played at the highest level domestically but also represented his country.”

King and his assistant Matt Groves are still waiting for the green light from the club’s board in terms of continuing their roles next season.

When asked for an update on the situation, King said: “Hopefully it will all get sorted out this week as it is vital we start signing on players as soon as possible.

“We have lined up a few, including some new ones, but until we get the go ahead there is not much else we can do.”
