ENGLISH rapper Wretch 32 is ‘feeling dead proud’ to have been chosen to perform during Olympic torch relay evening celebration on Weymouth Beach.

The 27-year-old rising star – real name Jermaine Scott – has been announced as the act being brought to Dorset by Coca-Cola, a presenting partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

Wretch 32 will feature as part of a free special performance on Weymouth Beach on Thursday, July 12 to welcome the arrival of the Olympic flame.

Other entertainment will include the Moving Tides children’s procession and a mass public drumming event on the seafront.

Wretch 32 and the torch relay, will then move on to Bournemouth Beach on Friday, July 13 for Dorset’s second evening celebration.

In its role as a London 2012 sponsor, Coca-Cola has launched two campaigns – Move To The Beat, to get teens excited about the home Games by tapping into their passion for music by fusing it with sport and Future Flames, to celebrate the best of British youth by giving them the once-in-a-lifetime chance to carry the Olympic flame.

Wretch 32 said: “I’m feeling dead proud to be playing such a massive event. When the Olympic Torch Relay finally comes to Dorset Coca-Cola are going to make it a big night for all the inspirational Future Flames.

“It’d be mad to miss the night, so everyone should get ready to party.”

The events in Dorset are part of 66 free evening celebrations happening throughout the 70-day Olympic Torch Relay, which sees Coca-Cola taking up and coming British music acts on tour around the UK, including Emeli Sandé, General Fiasco, Katy B, Kids In Glass Houses, Labrinth, Little Comets, Loick Essien, Morning Parade, Rizzle Kicks, Tribes, Wombats and Young Guns.

Coca-Cola is working with the London Organising Committee (LOCOG) and host local authorities to organise the celebrations.

James Williams, the Coca-Cola company’s director for the Olympic Torch Relay, said: “We know that music brings people together in celebration and as a presenting partner of the Olympic Torch Relay we have a fantastic opportunity to extend the magic and excitement of London 2012 to every corner of the UK.

“We are taking some of the nation’s most exciting musical talent on the road with the aim of getting Dorset and the whole country moving to the beat in celebration of their local Future Flames.

“We’re encouraging everyone to attend their nearest evening celebration – and the spectacular finale in London’s Hyde Park – to soak up the incredible atmosphere as the UK prepares to host to the Games.”
