WEYMOUTH SECONDS 86 (2pts) lost to Martinstown 87-4 (18pts) by six wickets

LIAM Banfield and Ross Stewart took Weymouth Seconds to the cleaners as Martinstown claimed the derby spoils at Redlands in Dorset League Division Two.

Batting first on a damp track, the hosts got off to a steady start thanks to some sensible batting from Ryan Monk (20) but when he and Dave Pearce (12) departed to the bowling of Banfield (5-26), the rot set in with calamitous consequences.

Skipper Michael Pearce (12) put up some resistance but from 82-5, the Seasiders went on to capitulate to 85 all out with Stewart wading in with 4-21.

Defending such a low score, Weymouth were desperate for some early success with the ball and their captain provided it by trapping Ed Nichols (0) leg before.

However, fellow opener Lee House (31 not out) soon steadied the ship to see Martinstown home with relative ease despite the efforts of Graham Puckett (1-18) and John Ryan (2-17).

Having seen five of his side fall to ducks, Michael Pearce will no doubt be hoping for much better at Shillingstone on Saturday while Martinstown will look to seal back-to-back victories at home to Poole Town Seconds.
