YET more gardens are opening in the West Dorset village of Netherbury this year for its annual Open Gardens celebration.

For 2012, Netherbury has no fewer than five Yellow Book NGS gardens open to the public.

Besides the horticultural giants already mentioned there are a handful of hidden gems which are opening for the village and are not to be missed.

These range from a garden with a breathtaking number of roses, a stunning courtyard garden, riverside walks, wonderful wisteria, parades of foxgloves and magnificent views. This year, the 49th consecutive opening, there is a new Light Lunch Menu with a greater variety of smaller options to tickle one’s taste buds in the village hall from 12.30pm to 2pm. As the icing on the cake there is also retail therapy on offer with plant stalls, a bottle tombola, local cider, bric-a-brac and a range of other local produce to take home with you.

The gardens are open from 1pm to 5pm on May 19 and 20.

Admission is £5 per person valid both days, with children under 13 going free.
