SELECTED 2.4mR sailor Helena Lucas praised her British teammate Megan Pascoe who pushed her every step of the way for selection and raised her game.

The pair, who both live on Portland, were in close contention for London 2012 selection.

Lucas, 37, said: “Megan worked really hard over the last four years. She’s been pushing me very hard. It’s been fantastic, it’s raised my game.”

She said that Pascoe was going to be helping her out in preparation for the Paralympics.

Lucas added: “After the Beijing experience, where I didn’t get a medal and was disappointed, it’s great to have Megan on board and know she’s committed to helping me.

“I’m really lucky. I know some other competitors are struggling because they don’t have a teammate to train with and they are finding it quite hard.

“It’s hard to move on, on your own, you need someone to push you.”

Lucas said the pair got on really well off the water and on the water they did not give each other any slack.

She said: “It’s brilliant.”

Lucas, who is the newest British Paralympian to be living on the island having moved to Fortuneswell last September said: “I’m really enjoying living down here. I love Portland.

“For me it’s a massive benefit. I have the facilities on the door step.”
