THE BENEFICE of Abbotsbury, Portesham and Langton Herring will be holding a Diamond Jubilee service and picnic at St Catherine’s chapel, Abbotsbury on Saturday, 2 June at 5.30 pm.

Bishop Graham (Bishop of Sherborne) will be attending and everyone is welcome. Please bring a picnic. Lifts will be available for those less mobile.

PORTESHAM WI will also be busy on Saturday, 2 June, hosting the village cafe and Jubilee exhibition, to include the unveiling of the Jubilee banner. Usual start time of 10 am with tea, coffee and bacon rolls available.

A little later at the village hall, the WI proudly present Martinstown Players in “Coronation Fever”, a comedy in two acts. Admission is £5 to include light refreshments. Bring your own bottle and glasses and dress in 1950’s clothes if you like!

YET more entertainment on Saturday, 2 June with live music from “Left, Right and Centre” at the King’s Arms starting at 8 pm.

Come and celebrate the Jubilee a couple of days later, Tuesday, 5 June at the King’s Garden Party. BBQ, disco and “Red Tent Events” will be keeping the children occupied with garden party games and caricatures. The pub will be open all day serving lunch from 12 noon to 3 pm and pantry service from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Abbotsbury and Portesham RBL Women’s section’s next meeting will be on Monday, 11 June at 7.30 pm in Portesham village hall with “School Nurse” by Mrs Julia Shutlar.

THE RBL summer excursion will be on Thursday, 28 June beginning at Poole with a guided tour of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s HQ. After lunch (not included), there will be a 1 ¼ hour sail across the harbour to Wareham Quay before returning by coach.

FOLLOWING the success of the recent Summer Family Bingo evening, Portesham Primary School will be holding a special “Jubilympics” Bingo evening on Friday, 15 June. The first six games will have prizes themed around red, white and blue, celebrating the Jubilee, while the second six will have prizes with a sporting theme looking forward to the Olympics. Eyes down at 6.30 pm.
