YOUNG at heart Ivy Ferguson celebrated her 102nd birthday.

The great-grandmother marked the occasion with friends and family at Culliford House residential home in Icen Way, Dorchester on Thursday May 17.

Mrs Ferguson said she had had a lovely day as she smiled and laughed with her loved ones.

She said: “I’ve had a very good time today, it’s been wonderful.

“All my friends and family came to see me, I love it here.”

She celebrated her birthday with a slice of cake and a cup of tea.

Son Richard said his mum was still young at heart and that she had kept her wicked sense of humour.

He said: “Mum has always had a great sense of humour, there’s nothing wrong with her at all, she’s going to be the oldest person ever.

“On her 80th birthday she had too much champagne and fell down. An ambulance came out and said she’s drunk, just put her to bed.

“She’s always been a character and she’s really happy here. The home is amazing and gives really top-rate care.”

Mrs Ferguson lived with Richard and his wife Ruth in Weymouth for 20 years before coming to Culliford House in April last year.

She had lived with her late husband George in Guildford, Surrey, where she was a nursery nurse.

Daughter-in-law Ruth said: “We are really thankful for all the great care Ivy has had, both here and at the Cross Road Surgery in Weymouth.

“It’s really the thing that’s prolonged her life so we’re really grateful.”
