A REFURBISHMENT project to provide additional sixth-form facilities at Budmouth College has been approved.

Dorset County Council’s cabinet backed the £200,000 scheme that will see four new sixth-form classrooms in place for the start of the next academic year and a new sixth-form common room.

Councillors were told that the move comes as a result of Weymouth College reducing its A-level provision, which will see an influx of sixth-form students at Budmouth from September.

A report considered by members said that the number of sixth-form pupils at Budmouth was expected to rise from 380 to 480 next year.

The new classrooms should be in place by the start of the September term, with the common room expected to be completed by December.

Cabinet member for corporate resources Spencer Flower said: “It demonstrates the level of investment, even in these difficult times, going into our schools.”
