Dorchester’S hopes of challenging for the Dorset Premier League title this season suffered another blow on Saturday in the form of a 132-run defeat at Parley.

The visitors restricted the hosts to 256-7 but then went on to fail miserably with the bat as their opponents knocked them over for a paltry 124.

Vice-captain Dan Belt, who led the side in the absence of Martyn Rich-ards, told Echosport: “We bowled reasonably well but our batting let us down badly.

“That is our second defeat and now we must pick ourselves up straight away and come back ready to put things right on Saturday.”

There were no such problems for local rivals Weymouth as they claimed maximum points with a seven-wicket victory at Winton.

The Seasiders skittled the Bourne-mouth outfit for 157 before knocking off the runs in just 27.4 overs.

Skipper Dean Janaway said: “After the last couple of weeks we knew we needed to pick up some points so to come away with the full 20 was very pleasing indeed.

“It was a good all-round display and it should give us some confidence going into Saturday’s derby with Dorchester at Redlands (1.30pm).”
