A MAN suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car late at night in Weymouth.

Police said that the 42-year-old was getting into a taxi outside the Belvedere Inn in High West Street at around 11.15pm on Saturday when the incident happened.

Officers said that the passing car which struck the man failed to stop after the collision.

Officers are keen to trace the driver and are appealing for information about the incident.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “At 11.15pm on Saturday, June 9 a road traffic collision occurred outside the Belvedere Inn on High West Street.

“A 42-year-old male was waiting to get in to a taxi when he was struck by a passing car.

“The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. The car failed to stop.”
