I cannot comment on some of the things “Disgruntled Weym-outh Resident” has written in their letter (Dorset Echo, Tuesday June 5).

I have not seen the laser lights and am not particularly keen on driving in Weymouth since the changes in the road system but I would like to comment on the Olympics. How can anyone say only the sailing academy gains anything from this?

You only have to see the foreign vehicles driving around – they have to be filled with fuel. Listen to the number of foreign languages in the supermarkets and look at the logos etc on the cars parked in their car parks – they have to eat. Some enterprising people have let out their homes – that money will be spent locally.

I do not have a lot of interest in sailing per se but wish all the Olympians good luck. They have all worked hard.

Perhaps those that moan should stop and think how proud they would be if they had a family member or friend partaking in any of the sports.
