STUDENTS from the Level Three Extended Diploma in Agriculture raised more than £2,000 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at their annual Kingston Maurward College charity Muckathon.

Their challenge was to spread, plough and cultivate 24 hectares in 24 hours over two days.

A stinking 200 tonnes of manure was spread on the first day with some dedicated students ploughing on into the early hours until the torrential rain started.

The rain continued throughout the night and the following day before the students were told to stop work by the farm manager because of the appalling conditions.

Therefore the second day was pressure washing and making sure all machinery was returned spotless to the Muckathon’s sponsors.

KMC charity Muckathon has been going for a decade and this year saw the best line up of machinery and equipment donated to the event by 15 companies with an estimated value of £1.2million.

In total a record £2,103 was raised for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance from sponsorship money and a street collection.
