LEWIS Clarke has agreed to become the latest recruit at the Bob Lucas Stadium and will put pen to paper at tonight’s sponsors evening.

The 18-year-old winger, who was released by Yeovil Town in May, enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Terras last season and boss Brendon King is backing him to become a big hit at his hometown club over the coming years.

He said: “Lewis has agreed terms and will sign tonight.

“He did very well for us during his short loan spell here last season and he is now at a stage in his career where he needs regular Football.

“Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as he had hoped in the full-time game with Yeovil but he now has an opportunity with us to put himself in the shop window.

“It will take a little bit of time for him to make the transition to part-time football but he knows this a chance for him to really show what he can do.

“The fact he is also another local lad is fantastic and once again it shows players in the area that they will be given the opportunity here if they do the right things.”

King also held talks with an ex-Football League defender on Wednesday night and is hopeful that the player in question will sign.

He added: “The talks went well and we are now at an advanced stage.

“We have offered him a deal and he has now gone away to think it over but it looks pretty positive.

“The challenge excites him and I have no doubts he would be another excellent addition.

“Not only is he an ex-pro but he has won the Southern League Premier Division before and his experience would be a huge asset for us, particularly in terms of helping the youngsters coming through.”

The Weymouth boss has also given an update on the futures of Tom Manley and Alex Jeannin.

He went on to say: “We are still talking with Alex and we are just trying to get things right for both parties but I cannot foresee any problems there.

“As for Tom, we are just going to see how it goes.

“He has really enjoyed his last two years here but he has got a lot on his plate over the forthcoming season.

“Not only is he suspended for the first two games but he is also getting married and has his work commitments as a teacher to think about.

“With him, it is just a case of whether it is going to fit in with his schedule.”

Tonight’s sponsors evening will take place at the Riviera Hotel from 6.30pm onwards with the club’s AGM scheduled for tomorrow at the Bob Lucas Stadium at midday. Call 785558 if you are planning to attend either event.
