We went to a very enjoyable show at the Pavilion the other day.

It was packed full of people of all ages, all looking excited, smiling, some slightly overwhelmed but chattering away to complete strangers in the aisles.

Not a usual theatre show we hear you say. It certainly wasn’t.

There were no overpaid prima donnas, no pompous performers.

It was a show where the whole audience were the stars, with their giving of time and above all willingness and the people on the stage were the genuine article, full of thoughtfulness and admiration, part of a huge team, intent on bringing out the best in people, for the visitors that come to Weymouth in July and August during the Games.

Hundreds of people coming together to be part of something they will remember forever as a team and as individuals.

Almost without realising it we are the team that are behind the scenes and at the forefront of Wey-mouth’s showcase this summer.

Spreadsheet rotas turned magically into human recognition putting faces to names and numbers for the first time.

With homework to do and ‘welcome to Weymouth and Portland’ in four languages plus sign language to learn, we are up for it and raring to go.

As Jubilee Sailing Trust volunteers we are used to teamwork and challenges that can be overcome.

Bring on the games and let the legacy continue in as natural and positive way as possible for the area.
