Temporary usage of car parks

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council hereby gives notice of the temporary variation of the regulations which apply to the use of its car parks which are specified below, in connection with the Borough’s hosting of the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic Games and with the staging of associated special events. These temporary arrangements are to be made under Article 2.2 of The Borough of Weymouth and Portland (Off-Street Parking Places) (Consolidation) Order 2011.

1. The following car parks will be closed between the dates shown below;
Beach Car Park – 19 July to 14 August 2012
Nothe Car Park – 26 July to 14 August 2012
Park Street Car Park – 25 July to 14 August 2012
Pavilion Car Park – 16 July to 17 August 2012
Pavilion Forecourt Car Park – 20 July to 12 September 2012
Swannery Car Park – 22 July to 14 August 2012
Sections of these car parks may be closed during the weeks before and after the above full closure dates, to enable preparatory and re-instatement works to be carried out.

2. Governors Lane Car Park and Royal Yard Car Park.
Between 26 July and 13 August 2012 Governors Lane Car Park will be reserved for use by holders of Zone F Town Centre Residents Parking Permits only and Royal Yard Car Park will be reserved for use by holders of Royal Yard Residents’ permits and holders of Zone H Town Centre Residents Parking Permits only. Pay and display parking will not be available on either of these car parks.

3. Council Offices Car Park.
Between 26 July and 12 August 2012 the whole of the Council Offices Car Park will be reserved for use only by holders of permits issued to those conducting essential duties during the Olympic period. No public parking will be available between those dates.

4. Magistrates Court Car Park.
Between 27 July and 12 August 2012 the Magistrates Court Car Park will be reserved for use by authorised users only. Public parking, which is usually available on weekends and Bank Holidays, will not be available between those dates.

5. Melcombe Regis Car Park.
Between 26 July and 13 August 2012 vehicles using this car park will be subject to a maximum stay of 3 hours (with no return within a further 3 hours), between 9.30am and 7pm. Between those dates the following temporary pay and display charging tariff will apply;

Up to ½ Hour £0.70
Up to 1 Hour £1.30
Up to 2 Hours £2.60
Up to 3 Hours £3.90
All night (7pm to 9.30am) £3.00

Holders of Residents Parking Permits for Park District Zones A,B,C and A+C and for Town Centre Zones F,G and H may still park free of charge in pay and display spaces, between 6pm and 9.30am only. The Westham Bridge section of the car park will be closed between those dates.

6. Chesil, Masonic and Overcombe car parks.
Sections of these car parks will be closed at various times during the summer of 2012. No public parking will be available within those sections of these car parks whilst they are closed.

During the time periods stipulated above, Penalty Charges shall be payable in respect of any motor vehicle which is parked;

A) In a Parking Place which has been closed, or within a section of a Parking Place which has been closed, unless the parking of that vehicle has been specifically authorised by the Council or, in the case of the Beach, Swannery, Nothe and Park Street car parks, by the Council or by the ODA.

B) Within the Council Offices, Governors Lane, or Royal Yard car parks, without clearly displaying a parking permit valid for use in that Parking Place at that time.

C) Other than in accordance with the car park regulations (including the temporary 3 hour maximum stay limit on Melcombe Regis Car Park).

These temporary arrangements and/or the dates during which they will apply may be subject to change or cancellation, as operational requirements necessitate. Whenever these temporary arrangements are not in effect, the regulations and tariffs which usually apply to the use of these car parks shall apply. The power of the Council to close to the public the whole or any part of any of its off-street parking places, or to vary the regulations or charging tariffs which apply to their use, either temporarily or permanently, is not affected by this notice.
