A Dorchester couple proved it’s never too late to find love when they tied the knot.

Lynn Windsor, 66, and Norman Purchase, 89, saved up for ages so they could push the boat out on their lavish event.

The happy couple celebrated their love story surrounded by friends and family at the United Reformed Church in Dorchester and then had their reception at the Colliton Club.

The pair got together six years ago. Lynn has been married twice before but both ended in sadness and Norman’s first wife passed away from cancer eight years ago.

The couple, who are neighbours, said they helped each other through the hard times and found their love grew and grew.

Lynn said her last divorce was ‘very bad’. She said: “I said I’d never marry again, it was such a bad time for me.

“Norman is so lovely. He’s honourable and helped me through. He’s very into family. That’s how I came to trust him. I thought why haven’t I met a man like this before in my life?”

She added: “I have been waiting for him all my life, we are so happy. It’s true love.”

Lynn wore a Victorian-style dress with a 140-inch veil and tiara and the couple hired a white Rolls Royce.

She said that Norman is ‘amazing’ and he had done so much and deserved to be recognised and so she wanted to push the boat out on their wedding day.

Lynn said: “I have never felt so much love in my life. Age has nothing to do with it, it’s the love you have in your heart.”

Norman, who moved to Dorchester 20 years ago, had two best men, his grandsons Richard and Simon Purchase and three ushers, his sons Michael, George and Jim Purchase.

Second World War veteran Norman fought on the front line and lost his hearing in the war.

He was mentioned in dispatches for his bravery.

Norman said he didn’t think he would find love again but then he and Lynn fell in love. He said: “I love the lot of her. Lynn’s absolutely charming, she’s great.”

He said falling in love was more ‘mature’ second time round. He said: “It’s fantastic, it’s lovely.”

He added: “We will be very happy, I’m sure of that.”

The couple said they had always wanted to go and see the Blackpool illuminations and that’s their next aim.
