A GYMNAST from Dorchester is limbering up for a television appearance on a new sports talent show.

Liam Gallagher, of Alfred Place, Fordington, will be appearing on ITV’s Let’s Get Gold on Friday when his gymnastic team Infinity performs on the show.

The competition will feature a panel of sporting judges, including footballer Rio Ferdinand and former cricketer Andrew Flintoff, who will award a bronze, silver or gold rating for each of the 15 displays.

The former Thomas Hardye student, who is currently studying sports and exercise in Cardiff, said: “It was amazing being on the show, we all had such a good time – it was just incredible.

“I got such an adrenaline rush performing on stage in front of hundreds of people in the live audience. It was really surreal, it all happened so quickly from them accepting us on the show and then being in the studio.”

The 20-year-old added: “They saw a video of us on YouTube and then came and did an audition.

“I’m not too worried about if we win or not because we had such a great experience just being on the show.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out when they’ve edited it all together.

“All the teammates are having a party to watch it all together, it’s so exciting.”

Team Infinity is currently British champion in the discipline of team gymnastics and will be competing at the European championships in autumn.

Liam said: “I’ve been doing gym since I was about four years old and I’ve been competing since I was ten or 11. Team gymnastics is tumbling, trampet and floor work and we combined all those aspects for the TV show.

“The display had to be entertaining and incorporate all of that in 90 seconds, which is quite a short amount of time.

“With 18 gymnasts flying through the air it could all have come crashing down, there’s huge potential for things to go wrong.”

The show will feature contestants from 15 teams across the country who will showcase their talents for a prize of £100,000 that will go towards promoting their sport.

Let’s Get Gold will be broadcast on ITV 1 at 9pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Infinity’s first appearance will be on Friday.
