A PENSIONER was verbally abused and spat at by a group of youths, police said.

The 70-year-old woman was assaulted in High Street, Gillingham, on Monday afternoon.

PC Mike Henstridge, of Gillingham police, said: “This is a particularly nasty attack which has understandably left an elderly woman scared to go back to the town centre.

“The victim is unsure as to how many people were part of the group that approached her, but she has given us brief descriptions of the two main offenders.

“We have no doubt that there will be witnesses to this callous attack."

The victim has described one of the offenders as a white boy, aged around 16, and wearing a dark coat with the hood up covering his face.

The second main offender is described as a white girl, aged around 14 with dark hair, and wearing light coloured trousers and glasses.

Witnesses and anyone with information can call Dorset Police on 101.
