THE Dorset Echo’s coverage of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations last month has received the royal seal of approval.

After receiving copies of our special Diamond Jubilee supplements, along with our congratulations to mark 60 years of her reign, Her Majesty sent a letter of thanks from Buckingham Palace to Dorset Echo employees.

In her letter to Toby Granville, Group Editor of the Dorset Echo and Bournemouth Daily Echo, Queen Elizabeth II said: “I send my grateful thanks to all employees of the Dorset Echo for their kind message of congratulations, sent on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of my accession to the throne.

“In return, please accept my good wishes for a most memorable and enjoyable Diamond Jubilee year.”

After receiving the royal correspondence, signed Elizabeth R, Mr Granville said: “It’s thanks to the people of Dorset and their great community spirit that we have been able to produce such good coverage of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, particularly in our special supplements.”

He added: “We are obviously delighted that our coverage of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations has been well received by Her Majesty.”

The Dorset Echo captured celebrations during scores of street parties and other events held throughout Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and west Dorset to mark the milestone.
