DOZENS of men and women will be donning netball bibs this weekend to compete in a charity tournament in aid of the Will Mackaness Trust.

The Fun Mixed Charity Tournament with World Netball Series rules will be held this Sunday at Budmouth Community Sports Centre in Weymouth.

Registration begins at 10am with matches taking place from 10.30am.

Entry costs £15 per team and all proceeds will be donated to the Will Mackaness Trust, which enables local children to experience water sports.

The outside event will have Fastnet Rules with rolling subs for teams with enough players, two men or boys permitted to play per team at any one time, shooters can achieve double points by scoring from outside the circle.

There will also be ‘Power Play’ where teams’ goal scores will be doubled during either the first or second half of the game. All other netball rules apply.

Organiser Kelly Browne, of the South West Dorset Netball League, said it would be a day of family fun, with competition spiced up by the special tournament rules.

She added: “Just think, a team could be losing 3-0, but in the last few seconds, score from outside the circle during their power play, and end up winning 3-4.”

Last year the local netball league held a similar event in aid of the Dorset County Hospital’s Digital Mammography Appeal and raised more than £500.

Spectators are urged to turn out and support the fun.
