ST AUGUSTINE’S Primary School have qualified to take part in the School Olympic Games this Friday.

The Weymouth school bagged their place at Colfox School where more than 220 schoolchildren took part in the inaugural West Big Swing Tri Golf Festival.

This event, which is a satellite of the Big Swing in Bournemouth, was the brain child of Darren Stratham and has grown from strength to strength.

Weymouth Golf Club professional Des Lochrie took four schools to Bournemouth last year and was so impressed that he decided to try an event in the west, with the help of Dale Rhodes, Duncan Driver (Lyme Regis) and Dave Parsons (Bridport) with great support from Irene Fairley of Colfox School in Bridport.

One team from each area qualified for the school Olympics with Charmouth School and Bridport Primary, joining St Augustine’s at the showpiece event.

Any schools or individuals that are interested in getting into golf can contact Lochrie or Luke Bartlett at Weymouth Golf Club on 773997 or email des.lochrie@foremostgolf.com The duo will be running a summer club at the Lodmoor Pitch & Putt, with details available on request.
