Its absolutely disgusting the way the locals have been treated during all this, sickening is also a word that comes to mind.

I've just booked a decent looking guest house for 2 adults and 1 child (family room) for £95 a night. One call to Weymouth Tourist Info and a list of places with vacancies took 2 minutes.

If the pictures on the web are accurate, 5 mins from Weymouth beach for that money during the Olmypics seems reasonable.

Do you not see the irony in what you've just posted? People are able to book rooms at low prices! Where is all the extra trade that was promised? The Olympics are proving to be great for s locals with no dependence on the tourism economy but they have been a disaster for many local businesses.
As for the "relentless malcontent" referred to by Captain Sensible, I have been saying for four years that the event was being overhyped, not because of some ideological fanaticism, but because experience from Sydney, Beijing, Vancouver - all f which is well documented in academic sources,says that the return on investment is negligible and for satellite towns, negative. As one paper put it, when asked to name the town that hosted the sailing events in the 2004 Olympics, not one person in a hundred asked could do so. Just because you question a dogma does not make your view wrong.

But if they tried to book a couple of weeks back would they have been charged £95.00?

Some B&B's are saying they are booked up as they did not raise prices.

Others are not booked up and some of those have been trying to get half as much again if not double or more.

That's the irony.

The council should have bought Portland's dockyard when the M.O.D virtually gave it away they could have developed it and created jobs not to mention having the option of using the road through the dockyard as an alternative route to tophill but no the whole council are so short sighted they should make a block booking at Specsaver's, all they ever think about is increasing car park charges, and if Condor don't return thats more revenue lost because the council were too short sighted to invest in facilities for them. Portland could be used a lot more because of the deep water but the lack of decent roads means it will never be a major port, the only way that would ever change is if they extended the M27 to link up with the M5 and i think pigs will learn how to fly before that happens.

Condor coming back - I very much doubt it, they said the Navy would never leave - they did ! As for financial loss Brittany Ferries manage quite well out of Poole/Plymouth. There the councils are open minded.

I don't think the costs of running that catamaran would ever be covered by viewing trips, so i seriously doubt that was ever a viable option. The point about Brittany Ferries is that they run a traditional ferry service where the faster you go the more fuel you burn. Catamarans are more efficient the faster they go, hence speed is important and the longer run into Poole eats into profits. They will be back.

That staging was for the Cultural Olympiad / Opening Ceremony show. They'd hardly continue to put on more stage shows which would compete with the already-poorly-atten

and your the perfect person then mate your to quick to judge what the hell has smoking and being overweight got to do with all this . it doesnt matter what these people look like or what they like to do they have money in their pockets which they spend to help improve weymouth via the councils facilities. i smoke and am overweight and live in weymouth ,yet i work 70 hours a week to support my wife and 2 kids and take no income or handouts from the government i also pay a hefty poll tax bill and all my taxes and help out in the community in my spare time ,so am i a drain on your wonderful little narrow minded brain.your prob unemployed and its people like me paying for your upkeep to live in this beautiful town ,either that or your a posh wannabe that still lives in a society of class where anything below you is considered evil and not worthy .

Just a note from down under. When I went to school at All Saints back in the 60's the personal signature for myself was " I ", always a capital letter. Reading recent posts to the Echo, it now appears, in many cases ( to be a lower case) "i". When did the rules change? Wish I'd known back then, I might have past English.

When I was a lad, I might have gotten a clip around the head if I put my elbows on the dinner table. Luckily over the years we came to realise that things like certain table manners were not very important in relationship to (say) being a nice person. Society therefore chose to emphasise more important things. I guess this change of attitude would also apply to grammar. The content of the article being of more importance than the structure.

I think content and structure are equally as important, otherwise the message or point being communicated can be misinterpreted or lost in translation.
