FUNDRAISERS are aiming to score for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust by kicking a football along the Jurassic Coast.

The 11-strong group of pals from Weymouth and Dorchester aim to net £1,000 from the 26-mile long Jurassic Kickabout.

They will be booting the ball up and down cliffsides from Worth Matravers to Weymouth over a weekend in September.

They have appealed for sponsorship through the Just Giving website and a connected text number.

Team captain James Tourgout said: “It’s going to be tough going at times as there are some big cliffs along the way but we are really looking forward to it.

“We’re hoping not to lose too many balls, or people, off the top of the cliffs.

“It should be good fun but it is also for a very good cause.

“Several of us have lost loved ones and very good friends to cancer.

“Weldmar was certainly there to help them, and us, at that time, and we want to give something back.”

The team includes Chris Davies, Barrie Mason, Douglas Telford, Eric Henson, James Tourgout, John Tourgout, Lloyd Richards, Paul Derrien, Phil Mead, Richard Malpas and Gavin Gunning.

Many of the group have played football together in various teams in Weymouth and Dorchester.

They decided on a sponsored walk with a difference for Weldmar – and added the ball.

They have been getting kitted out from Great Western Camping in Dorchester but have also been taking practice walks.

The group are tackling the charity challenge as part of the Dorset Echo and Weldmar’s Go for Gold campaign.

The Go for Gold campaign, which is backed by the Dorset Echo and runs through the summer, aims to encourage people to raise money by challenging themselves.

James said: “Any sponsorship people can offer would be much appreciated.

“We have a Just Giving page and a number people can text to donate £5 which goes directly onto the website.

“We also have sponsorship forms so please do sponsor us if you can.”
