A MUSICAL party on the beach will provide the soundtrack to this year’s Weymouth Carnival.

Repeating the success of the previous two carnivals, organisers have again lined up a feast of musical entertainment.

A big stage will be set up on the beach for carnival day next Wednesday when there will be music and dancing from 11am until late.

Carnival queen Lucy Compton, who is helping to co-ordinate the music event, said: “This year’s beach stage ‘Blondz on the Beach’ features something for everyone as singers and dancers cover a huge range of genres throughout the day. Acts range from local stars and bands to internationally famous artists.”

Headlining is X-Factor star Andy Abraham, who is also appearing in this year’s Pavilion pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.

Before singing on the beach stage, Andy will officially launch the carnival at 10am on the balcony of the New Vic on the Esplanade where the winner of the carnival queen competition will be announced. The three beauties hoping to be queen are Elysia Munday, Hannah Derrick and Gina Hartley.

Also on the beach stage, which is sponsored by Blondz hairdressers, is 18-year-old Anglo/Maltese singer Sophie who is on a tour of the UK.

Sophie, who will be supported by Italia Conti dancers, said: “I really can’t wait to meet the lovely people of Weymouth.

“This is such a lovely opportunity and I feel very privileged and very excited to be part of such a fantastic event.”

There will also be performances for WOW Youth Musical Theatre, Adrian Bevan, Tony Lowe, Weymouth Operatic Society, The Veterans, David Powell, Pzazz Remixed, Billy Hutchinson, and rock tribute act Stereoironics.

The last act is popular local band Shooter before the firework display in Weymouth Bay provides a grand finale at 9.30pm.
