A CHARITY screening of the animated adventure Brave promises to offer summer holiday entertainment for youngsters in Dorchester .

The latest Disney Pixar film set in the Scottish Highlands will be shown at the Plaza Cinema in Trinity Street on Saturday, August 18.

The screening is the latest show of support by the cinema for the West Dorset Women’s Refuge.

The doors will open at 9.30am with the screening starting at 10am and there will be a free raffle, snacks and a fancy dress competition.

Chairman of the refuge Molly Rennie said the event promises lots of fun for youngsters as well as a welcome fundraiser for the refuge.

The Dorchester town and district councillor said: “This is the fourth time the cinema has done a charity showing for us and all the staff and everybody donates their time for free so any money raised goes directly to the refuge, which is fabulous.

“It’s going to be a lovely community event. It’s a family friendly film for all ages and we will be having a free raffle so hopefully everybody can take something home with them.”

Duty manager at the Plaza Natasha Harris said the cinema had been a long-term supporter of the refuge over the years and raised over £3,700 as well as offering free tickets for people from the refuge.

She said: “We are definitely happy to support them and have been supporting them for a number of years.

“We like to support the local community where we can.”

Councillor Rennie said that events like the cinema runs are also a way of letting those in the refuge know that local people and companies are supporting them.

She said: “Times are hard for everybody and it’s hard for us as well.

“What is important for us more than anything is how well the refuge is appreciated by the community.

“The community wants to come to something like this to support the refuge and organisations like the Plaza want to support us.

“That’s really important.”

Tickets cost £5 and can be booked in advance from the cinema or on the day.
